Members of the world’s first all-gay rugby club have revealed how they overcame prejudice to become a heavyweight in Rugby Union, and how they advocate LGBTQ rights in London.

“We’ve always taken great pride in the fact that this club has evolved with the country’s changing attitudes towards the LGBT community: back then it was simply about starting a team where gay men could play the game the love and getting the rugby community to accept our relevance and seriousness.

In the 23 years since it was founded the club has done much to advocate LGBTQ rights within the Rugby Union and in society as a whole.

Since it began the club has gone on to become fully fledged members of the Rugby Union, participated in and won the world's first match between two gay rugby teams, took part in the Rugby Sevens competition at the UK GaySports Festival and has played all over the globe.

The King's Cross Steelers were founded in 1995 in a pub called Central Station in King's Cross. Since their humble beginnings the club has gone from a team of six to having 120 members.
