The creator of the flag left the meaning purposefully vague, wishing for the community to have diverse interpretations. The most common interpretation of the flag is: black is for leather and for permanence; blue is for devotion, loyalty, and community; white is for purity and innocence; and the red heart is for the love of leatherfolk for each other and for their community

We recognize the impacts of colonization on our Two Spirit and Queer Indigenous communities. Before colonization, Two-Spirit people were included and respected as valued community members, often holding revered roles such as healers, matchmakers, and counsellors, among many others. As part of the colonization process, there has been an attempted erasure of Two-Spirit people. The western religious values and belief systems that were imposed on Indigenous people condemned any sort of sexual or gender diversity, and Two-Spirit and Queer Indigenous people were killed or forced into assimilation and hiding. One of many lasting impacts of colonization on Two-Spirit and Queer people, is an increased level of homophobia and transphobia within many Indigenous communities.

In 2018 https://official-lesbian-flag.tumblr.com started a search to create a lesbian flag. In 2019, after numerous polls, this was the final 5 stripe version. As this was only recently created, it's yet to be seen if the version becomes popular.

The green and light green represent aromanticism and the aro-spectrum; The white stripe represents friendship/platonic and aesthetic attraction/queerplatonic relationships/family, the importance and validity of all non-romantic relationships and feelings and non-romantic forms of love etc.; the black and grey stripes represent  the sexuality spectrum - acknowledging aro-aces, aromantic allosexuals, and everything in between.

We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.

The pink color represents sexual attraction to the same sex only; blue represents sexual attraction to the opposite sex only and the resultant overlap color purple represents sexual attraction to two or more sexes.
