Charlotte, MI – This school year, middle school students at Meadowview School, a part of Eaton Regional Education Service Agency, will have the chance to develop health literacy, emotional wellness, and positive habits for lifelong well-being as part of the Building Healthy Communities: Engaging Middle Schools through Project Healthy Schools (PHS) program.
Our business was started by Elmer Reider in 1963. He believed that if you offered quality products and honest service, people would return and tell others. Making flags and banners for over 50 years, Elmer’s Flag and Banner is Portland’s largest flag store with 4,000 square feet of flags, whimsical windsocks, weather vanes, kites, flagpoles and more.
The State of Michigan recognizes the duty, honor, and selfless service of Trooper Popp by lowering flags to half-staff. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.
Trooper Joel Popp joined the Michigan State Police in January of 2020, graduating as a member of the 137th Trooper Recruit School. He joined the MSP at 35 and was based out of the Tri-City Post his entire career. Before becoming an officer, Popp worked for Frito-Lay. He was a graduate of Bridgeport High School. Popp is survived by his wife, Stefanie, and their young daughter.

Women of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM) is preparing for our third annual Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge - a virtual, free, state-wide aerospace competition for girls in 4th-8th grade - this Fall from October 12th - November 9th! Registration will open in July.
To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.
Flag drawings and color are approximate. Actual flag designs and color are United Nations approved. All others are generally approved and recognized designs.

LANSING, Mich. -- Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the state of Michigan to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 to honor the life and service of Michigan State Police Trooper Joel Popp, who passed away in the line of duty.

In 13 of the 17 categories, the 2023 rates are higher than pre-pandemic 2019 graduation rates.
