Check to see if the flag store is a FMAA certified dealer. FMAA certified dealers have pledged to only sell FMAA certified flags. https://fmaa-usa.com/Membership.php

FMAA Certified flags have sewn stripes and embroidered stars. They are constructed with four rows of stitching on fly end of flag as well as extra reinforced stitching.  The header is either a white cotton-poly blend, 9-ounce sateen, or other heavy material with brass grommets.

The deception, specifically on Amazon, that a buyer is purchasing an American flag that is Made in the USA is a huge problem in the flag industry. Listings on Amazon with known imported US flags, may not say “Made in the USA” or “FMAA Certified”, but it gives the impression that the flag is Made in America, because it sold by a US Citizen or a Veteran. Last, counterfeit flags, and counterfeit FMAA labeling is very difficult to identify, which is why it is important to purchase flags from a known FMAA certified retailer. So, is your flag Made in the USA?

FMAA is an organization of flag manufactures in the United States. The organization was started to protect the integrity of our nation’s symbol and ensuring it is domestic in sourced materials and labor. The manufactures stand as a united group to establish a Made in USA certification, educate the public on the importance of FMAA Certification, and monitor governmental affairs relating to the flag industry.

The FMAA logo has a blue center which includes the FMAA logo (square stars & stripes) and the text FMAA. The blue center is outlined with white that includes CERTIFED on the top and MADE IN THE U.S.A. on the bottom. The final border is red with FLAG MANUFACTURERS on the top and ASSOCIATON OF AMERICA on the bottom.

As a certified FMAA (Flag Manufactures of Association of America) I have pledged to only sell American flags that are 100% made in America. What does that mean? First, it means that every part of your American Flag, the fabric, the thread to sew the flag, the dye that colors the fabric red and blue, and all components are MADE in the USA. With this certification, it instills confidence to you, knowing your flags is 100% sourced in America. Is your flag made in the USA?

There are only FIVE flag manufacturers that make FMAA certified flags. The names of manufacturers selling FMAA certified flags are: FlagSource, Eder, Valley Forge Flag, Annin, and FlagZone. If the flag is made by anyone else, it is probably an import. Note: Most FMAA certified dealers, like myself, private label their flags. If you see their logo or label on an American flag, it is FMAA certified.

If the price is too good to be true, then you are probably looking at an import. The average MSRP from the above FMAA manufacturers for 3×5 Nylon flags is $43.54. To be competitive with Amazon and other online retailers we sell that flag for $38 when purchasing single flag, when buying 25 or more flags our price is $25.25. If you see a 3×5 Nylon American flag for under $25, it is most likely an import. Here is the breakdown for 3×5 US Polyester flags. The average MSRP from the above FMAA manufacturers for 3×5 Polyester flags is $54.55. We sell a single 3×5 American polyester flag for $47 and when buying 25 or more our price is $34.10. If you see a polyester flag less than $34, assume it is an import.

Did you know that 6% of American flags sold in the USA are imports? That may not seem like that many, but it equates to over $4,000,000 in retail value.
