When the nation went under rule of the British Protectorate, the flag of Northern Rhodesia went into use. This flag was used from 1924 through 1964.

Woven polyester is a heavy-duty linen-look fabric that is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. It is considered to be longer-lasting and more durable than knitted polyester, and has a higher UV resistance, making it suitable for harsher conditions.

There are four colors used in the Zambian flag. Green is the color of the field, and it symbolizes the lush land of the nation. There are three vertical stripes located in the lower right corner. Red is symbolic of the fight for independence. Black is symbolic of the people of the national. The orange stripe represents the mineral wealth and the abundant natural resources of the country. Fully sewn flags are the most prestigious-looking option. They are made from the same woven polyester material as flag bunting, but the design is sewn on rather than printed, giving it a premium look.

Expected Life: flags flown continuously last 3 - 9 months, but can last up to 2 years if brought in at night and out of strong winds.

Flags are subjected to the elements. Ultra violet rays and high winds cause the breakdown of fibres in flags, particularly the breakdown of the sewn edges at the extremities.
