The Texas State Flag is separated into three parts: A large vertical blue stripe on the left-hand side, which stands for loyalty, and stacked white and red horizontal stripes on the right-hand side, which stand for purity and bravery, respectively. A single white star sits in the center of the blue color field, representing the independent spirit of Texas, "The Lone Star State".

In 1909, construction began on the first skyscraper west of the Mississippi River. Dallas Texas was home to the Praetorian building, a 14-story, 190-foot steel framed skyscraper. Dallas continued to grow as a trading and banking powerhouse in the South, reaching a population of 260,000 by 1929.

Nearly 10 years after Texas declared independence from Mexico, the U.S. Congress passed a bill for the United States to annex the Republic of Texas. Later that year, on December 29, 1845, Texas became the twenty-eighth U.S. state.

The Texas State Flag was originally introduced by Senator William H. Wharton to the Congress of the Republic of Texas on December 28, 1838. It was adopted as the national flag of the Republic of Texas on January 25, 1839. After Texas became a State in 1845, the flag remained the defacto state flag until it was made the official Texas State Flag in 1933.
