Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, April 6, 2024, to honor fallen U.S. Army Pfc. Raymond Schlamp who was killed near Dornot, France during World War II. Pfc. Schlamp, of Dubuque, was 28-years-old when his unit came under heavy German fire.

Pfc. Raymond U. Schlamp served in General George Patton’s Third Army from November of 1941. He and others were killed while crossing the Moselle River near the Horseshoe Woods. His remains were not identified until 2022, and his family more recently received a full briefing on his identification.

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.
