La primera bandera dominicana, izada en el Baluarte del Conde durante la lucha por la independencia nacional enla madrugada del 27 de febrero de 1844, fue confeccionada por la jovencita Concepción Bona con la ayuda de su prima hermana María de Jesús Pina, ambas residentes al frente del Baluarte.
