ST. GEORGE — Gov. Spencer Cox has ordered that both the American and Utah flags be flown at half-staff as a sign of solidarity with the State of Israel and its people following the attacks by Hamas.

“The United States and the State of Israel are inseparable partners, and I affirmed to Prime Minister Netanyahu again when we spoke [Monday] that the United States will continue to make sure Israel has what it needs to defend itself and its people.

“Utah has a long-standing relationship with Israel, and we will stand by our ally as they face the aftermath of an unjust attack on their country and people,” Cox said on Twitter on Saturday. “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this act of terrorism. Israel, and its people, will be in our prayers.”

The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses and other organizations to participate in this recognition, the statement said.

“Hamas terrorists have killed a hundred innocent Israeli civilians, wounded hundreds more, and taken dozens of hostages. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people, and my prayers are with the families suffering from these unprovoked attacks.”

According to a statement issued Monday by the Office of the Governor, flags should be lowered to the half-staff position at sunrise on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and remain at half-staff through sunset on Friday, Oct. 13.
